Meet The Global Pandemic That Not Only Crumbled Garfield Webster's Prime Ministership...It Almost Killed Him And It Confined Him To Retirement!

It Took A Pandemic To Take Down A Prime Minister Like Garfield Lucas Webster

Garfield Lucas Webster was Chawosauria's 3rd Prime Minister back in the 1910s, and he was a revolutionary. Bringing in a progressive agenda of workers' rights, labor unions, outlawing child labor, and racial segregation. Webster was at the height of his power by 1913, until World War I broke out, he had to deal with the painful memories from when he lived in War-plagued Europe back in childhood, having witnessing the Italian military siege of Rome, which led to the fall of the Papal States in 1870, Garfield was 10-years-old seeing dead bodies on the streets of Rome. His father moved him and his mother to his home country, England, to live there for 12 years.

Webster was able to stay in office throughout World War I, then the nation Webster was born in though his blood isn't indigenous to, the Russian Empire, collapses to a Bolshevik Revolution led by Vladimir Lenin, and eventually falls to a Civil War. That was extremely painful for Webster because he was born on his father's ship that was at the port of Saint Petersburg during his father's sailing trip to Russia.

What was happening in the world in the late 1910s never threatened Webster's chances of being approved to retrieve a second term as Prime Minister, however, it was one flu pandemic that changed the world.

"Garfield Catches The Flu!"

When the Spanish flu reaches Chawosauria, Prime Minister Garfield Webster began visiting hospitals all cross Chawosauria to personally meet Chawosaurian flu patients, unfortunately that was a bad idea because in 1919, Webster started showing signs: feeling tired, muscular and joint pain, a runny nose, a headache, a cough, and a fever. In June 1919, Webster was diagnosed with Influenza.

The infamous headline "Garfield Catches The Flu!" becomes a popular way for Chawosaurians to tell you that you have the flu. Webster grew extremely weaker and sicker, and that had Emperor Santiago and his staff to decide Webster was unfit for a second term as Prime Minister. Santiago sent Webster a letter, informing him that a second term is unlikely. This did however devastate Webster.

One Pandemic Can Change Everything

The Spanish flu certainly did changed Chawosaurian History. Imagine if Webster had taken a second term, he'd probably be able to "Bismarck" or "Schwartz" himself to more than two terms. Webster was a bold prime minister who can use his power to rally the people with his populist rhetoric. That would mean Jonathan Dragan Bismarck XVII would never be Prime Minister, communism would've never taken over Chawosauria, and Chawosauria would just be a Nordic-model state. It also meant conservatism would be prevalent in some areas in Chawosauria had Webster never gotten the Spanish flu. Conservatives would wish Webster never did got sick, this is because if Webster never gotten sick, Webster would not be a one-term Prime Minister. Theodore McClellan wouldn't be Prime Minister, and that meant the 1925 Chawosaurian legislative elections wouldn't be won by liberals because Webster never belong to neither of the two major British parties: the UK Conservative Party and the UK Liberal Party. Webster's preferred British party was Labour.

However, it is also possible that Labour would have taken over the Chawopolis Palace well in 1925 or later and Chawosauria would have had Labour Prime Ministers as well as Tory Prime Ministers like Malcolm Wilson who reigned in the 1900s before Webster. Chawosauria would've been ruled by a Westminster system if Webster never got sick. Chawosaurian politics would more be like British politics in a drastic broad way.

What Trump Can Learn From Webster's Demise?

Donald Trump (left) and Garfield Webster (right)

Garfield Webster was 86-years-old when Donald John Trump was born on June 14, 1946. Donald Trump was 9-years-old when Webster died in 1955 from a really serious brain tumor, and if Webster was alive in the 2016 U.S. presidential election which saw the unexpected election of Donald Trump that shocked the world into a global paralysis, Webster would be 156-years-old.

Both Republicans, Webster, and Trump may have one thing in common: a pandemic ended their political careers for good. Webster never responded to the pandemic because he got sick, Trump never responded properly to the COVID-19 pandemic because...well...he's Trump. The Chawosaurian people however do not blame Webster for his failure to combat the Spanish flu pandemic because the flu got him first, but Americans would blame Trump because his late response and his lack of action other than an ineffective travel ban that just bans Chinese people from coming to America but does not limit American tourists' ability to travel to China. Oops! No wonder the COVID-19 pandemic spread savagely all over America despite the travel ban. Have I told you America also has the worst number of coronavirus cases in the world? Double Oops!

It is unknown how Webster would handle Chawosauria's flu crisis. World War I was Webster's first crisis, he kinda debacles that by censoring Chawosauria's WWI death statistics because he feared those deaths may have been Jewish. Webster was not able to evacuate Europe when the war was about to happen, and he canceled the originally planned 1915 Chawosaurian legislative elections, in which he got a big backlash from the public in response. World War I made Webster an unpopular Prime Minister.

World War I and the Spanish flu exposed Webster's incompetence. Failure to prevent European Chawosaurians from getting killed on a war continent, trying to censor their deaths because he feared they could be Jewish, and he visited flu-patient hospitals that got himself sick and was unable to fight the flu crisis because of his own flu illness. However, Chawosaurians forgave Webster for all of that because they enjoy the progressive society that Webster created in his first four years as Prime Minister. Webster put in place free education and free healthcare accessible to Chawosaurians regardless of how rich or poor they are, and a workplace democracy in which workers get to make decisions about their lives. Labor Unions have significant control over Chawosaurian Politics. These Websterian policies outshine the negative side of Webster's legacy: World War I, his antisemitism, and his narcissistic leadership.

Trump on the other hand doesn't have much that will outshine the negative side of his own legacy. His poor response to the coronavirus pandemic may add to his already damaged legacy that he repeatedly stacked against himself unless something changes. What Trump can learn from Webster is that he can do something monumentally great like putting in place a progressive utopia like Webster did to Chawosauria, but that's something Trump is restrained from doing by the corporate interests that run Washington. When it comes to saving his legacy from eternal damnation, Trump is more unluckier than Webster. Webster saved his legacy from eternal damnation, Trump, well not so much.
